Mobile, Internet and TV in Switzerland – why Galaxus has the best deal

When you move to Switzerland, you need three things right away: a SIM card, internet and eventually TV. At Swisscom you easily pay CHF 120 per month for that. At Salt or Sunrise somewhat less, but still too much. Galaxus shook up the market in 2024 and has been offering the most transparent and cheapest plans in Switzerland since then.

What Galaxus does differently:

• No minimum contract. You can cancel every month. In the first month even daily. With the big providers you often commit for 12 or 24 months.
• One price for everyone. No need to call to get the "best price". There are no hidden discounts. What is on the website is what you pay.
• 5G network included. Galaxus uses the Sunrise network, one of the best 5G networks in Switzerland. Over 99 percent of the population is covered.
• Free number porting. Galaxus cancels your old contract and ports your number. You do not have to worry about anything.

Galaxus is a subsidiary of Digitec Galaxus, the largest Swiss online retailer. The company has no expensive branch structure, no call center army and no advisors trying to sell you unnecessary add-on packages. The result: lower prices for you.

Galaxus offers three mobile plans. All run on the Sunrise 5G network, all are cancellable monthly and number porting is free for all.

Basic – CHF 12 per month

• 3 GB data volume nationally on the 5G network
• Unlimited calls and SMS in Switzerland
• No roaming included

The Basic plan is enough if you are mostly on WiFi and only need the phone for messages, maps and occasional browsing while on the go. For CHF 12 per month you cannot get a 5G plan from any other Swiss provider.

CH Unlimited – CHF 19 per month (CHF 16 with SWITCH edu-ID)

• Unlimited data on the 5G network
• Unlimited calls and SMS in Switzerland
• 3 GB data in EU/USA roaming

This is the plan for most people. Unlimited 5G for CHF 19 is unmatched in Switzerland. At Swisscom you pay at least CHF 65 for comparable service. If you have a SWITCH edu-ID (students at Swiss universities), you pay only CHF 16.

International – CHF 29 per month

• Unlimited data on the 5G network nationally
• Unlimited calls and SMS in Switzerland
• Unlimited data in EU and USA (20 GB full speed, then throttled)
• 100 minutes of calls between Switzerland and EU/USA per month

This plan is worth it if you are regularly in the EU or USA. 20 GB roaming at full speed is more than enough for holidays, business trips or commuting. For comparison: At Swisscom a comparable plan costs over CHF 90.

Our recommendation: For the vast majority of expats and students, the CH Unlimited plan at CHF 19 (or CHF 16 with edu-ID) is the best choice. You get unlimited 5G, never have to think about data volume and pay less than anywhere else.

Since 2025 Galaxus also offers internet plans. The prices are, like mobile, the cheapest on the market.

200 Mbit/s – CHF 27 per month

• Cable network (HFC)
• 200 Mbit/s download, 25 Mbit/s upload
• Router included (Zyxel AX7501, WiFi 6)
• One-time activation: CHF 79

The entry-level offer is enough for 1 to 2 people who surf normally, stream and do video calls. 200 Mbit/s is fast enough for Netflix in 4K on two devices simultaneously.

1 Gbit/s – CHF 34 per month

• Cable network (HFC)
• 1 Gbit/s download, 100 Mbit/s upload
• Router included
• One-time activation: CHF 79

If you live in a shared flat or regularly download large files, 1 Gbit/s is the safe choice. Even if 5 people stream simultaneously, the internet stays fast.

10 Gbit/s Fiber – CHF 39 per month (CHF 34 with SWITCH edu-ID)

• Fiber optic (XGS-PON)
• 10 Gbit/s download and upload
• Router included
• One-time activation: CHF 79

The fastest internet in Switzerland for CHF 39. At Swisscom you pay at least CHF 80 for 10 Gbit/s. With SWITCH edu-ID even only CHF 34. Requirement is a fiber optic connection in your apartment.

Check availability: Whether your address has fiber or cable can be checked directly on the Galaxus website. Coverage is around 95 percent of Swiss households.

Important for shared flats: The internet connection runs under one person. If you live in a shared flat, one person needs to sign up. You can split the costs among yourselves. At CHF 39 for 10 Gbit/s that is less than CHF 10 per person in a flat of 4.

Galaxus TV has been available since September 2025 and offers a remarkably simple product.

Galaxus TV – CHF 11 per month

• 282 TV channels
• 7-day replay (watch any broadcast from the last 7 days)
• Live pause
• 1,000 recordings (accessible worldwide)
• Streaming on 3 devices simultaneously
• App-based: Smart TV, smartphone, tablet, laptop
• No TV box needed
• No activation fee

Add-on options:

• Skip ads: CHF 7 per month (on 27 German-language channels)
• 5 simultaneous streams instead of 3: CHF 5 per month
• 2,000 recordings instead of 1,000: CHF 5 per month

The special thing: Galaxus TV works independently of your internet provider. You do not need Galaxus Internet to use Galaxus TV. This means you can use Galaxus TV with Swisscom internet or even abroad. The technology is based on Zattoo, an established Swiss TV streaming service.

Who is it for? If you occasionally want to watch news, sports or shows, CHF 11 per month is a fair price. Especially practical: You can catch up on broadcasts from the last 7 days at any time. If you only watch Netflix and YouTube, you do not need Galaxus TV.

Galaxus offers two major saving opportunities that you should definitely use.

Family + Friends: Up to CHF 4 discount per person

The principle is simple: the more people you are, the cheaper it gets for everyone. Each member gets CHF 1 discount per month and per person in the group. In a group of 5, everyone saves CHF 4 per month.

Example calculation for a shared flat of 5:

• 5 x Mobile CH Unlimited: 5 x CHF 15 (instead of 19) = CHF 75 instead of 95
• 1 x Internet Fiber: CHF 35 (instead of 39)
• 1 x TV: CHF 7 (instead of 11)
• Total: CHF 117 per month for 5 people (CHF 23.40 per person for mobile, shared internet and TV)

Important: You do not have to be related. Flatmates, friends, colleagues, anything goes. One person creates the group in the Cockpit, the others join via invitation link. Everyone pays their own bill.

SWITCH edu-ID: Student discount without paperwork

If you study at a Swiss university, you have a SWITCH edu-ID. With it you get:

• Mobile CH Unlimited: CHF 16 instead of 19 per month
• Internet Fiber 10 Gbit/s: CHF 34 instead of 39 per month
• Savings: CHF 96 per year

And the best part: In a Family + Friends group, all members benefit from the student price, even if only one person has an edu-ID. You connect your edu-ID once in the Cockpit and done.

Combination tip: Mobile CH Unlimited (CHF 16 with edu-ID) plus Internet Fiber (CHF 34 with edu-ID) plus TV (CHF 11) equals CHF 61 per month. At Swisscom you pay at least CHF 140 for a comparable package. So you save over CHF 900 per year.

Switching to Galaxus takes less than 10 minutes and Galaxus handles the cancellation with your old provider.

Step 1: Register online

Go to the Galaxus website, choose your desired plan and register. You need a valid ID (photo of ID card or passport) and a payment method (credit card, PostFinance or TWINT).

Step 2: Receive SIM card or eSIM

Galaxus sends you a SIM card by post (free) or an eSIM by email. eSIM is the faster option if your phone supports it. Most iPhones from iPhone XS and newer Android devices support eSIM.

Step 3: Activate and start surfing

On the start date, insert the SIM card or download the eSIM. Your old SIM is automatically deactivated and your number is transferred. The whole process usually takes a few hours.

For internet the process is similar:

• Check your address on the Galaxus website
• Choose a start date
• Router arrives by post (a few days before the start date)
• On the start date, connect the router, done

Tip for newcomers: If you have just moved to Switzerland, order a mobile plan first. You get that right away. You can apply for the internet plan once you have your definitive residential address. Mobile, internet and TV can be booked independently from each other.
