Living in Brugg

Brugg is located in the canton of Aargau at the confluence of the Aare, Reuss and Limmat rivers, with around 13,608 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2025). The medieval old town with the Black Tower, a national heritage site, remains largely intact and is a traffic-calmed pedestrian zone. Brugg is also an important rail hub at the heart of the Zurich-Basel-Bern triangle and home to the FHNW campus Brugg-Windisch, with around 4,500 students and staff. Directly across the river in Windisch lies Vindonissa, Switzerland's only Roman legionary camp, with the country's largest Roman amphitheatre and the Vindonissa Museum. Brugg combines Roman history, a medieval old town and a modern university campus within walking distance, quiet and historic, yet central and superbly connected.

The Rathausplatz area

Our property at Rathausplatz 6 sits in the historic heart of Brugg, right in the old town and next to the Black Tower. The lane is a traffic-calmed pedestrian zone, yet you are just a few minutes' walk from the Aare river, the Neumarkt shopping centre or the weekly market. Brugg train station is around 10 minutes on foot (just under 1 km), from where the FHNW campus Brugg-Windisch is another 2 minutes away. There are 17 furnished rooms, one studio and one apartment. The building is currently being fully renovated and newly furnished, expected to be ready from autumn 2026. A viewing shows a construction site, move-in from November at the earliest. Ideal for anyone looking for a quiet, historic setting without giving up excellent connections to Zurich, Basel and Bern.
