Is the inventory list really free?

Yes, completely. No account, no subscription, no hidden costs. You only need your email address if you also want the finished file sent to you, and that is entirely optional.

Do I need to sign up or provide an email address?

No. You can fill in the entire list and download it as Word and PDF without any account and without email. Only after the download can you optionally provide an address to also have the file sent to you.

How reliable are the time values the tool calculates?

Customs explicitly allows estimated values (FAQ on removal goods, item 13). Our tool uses a simple rule applied the same way everywhere: purchase price depreciated on a straight line over 8 years, with a floor of 20% residual value. This is a practical estimation aid from BoVita, not an official rule, and every value stays freely editable.

What is the «goods for normal customs clearance» section?

Customs requires that items which do not meet the conditions for duty-free entry (usually: in use for less than 6 months) be listed separately under this title, with the goods value instead of the time value. If you mark an item as «in use for less than 6 months», it goes there automatically. About the name: the official form 18.44 calls the section «goods for normal customs clearance», the BAZG FAQ 6 calls the same section «Goods to be taxed». They mean the same thing. The document uses the wording of the form, with the familiar term once in brackets.

Do I still need to fill in form 18.44?

Yes. The inventory list is an attachment to form 18.44, it does not replace it. You present both to the customs office: the completed and signed form 18.44 and your inventory list. To make filling it in faster, the document includes a transfer aid: it maps your entries to the fields of the form, in the same order as on the form.

Why do you not fill in form 18.44 for me?

Because we do not want to alter an official form. You download it unchanged from bazg.admin.ch, fill it in and sign it. What we give you instead is a transfer aid that says field by field what belongs where. You present the form to the customs office in duplicate, both copies with an original signature. What is the border sheet?

A sheet at the end of the document with what counts at the customs crossing: no advance notification needed, use the lane for commercial goods (the lorry lane), clearance Monday to Friday and at some large customs offices also Saturday morning, the form in two copies, and the order of the steps. Opening hours of individual customs offices are deliberately left out, an outdated time would send you to a closed crossing with a loaded vehicle. We point to the BAZG directory of offices instead. What happens to my data?

We save your entries locally in your browser so you can close the assistant and continue later. They stay on your device, we do not see them. Only when you create a document are they briefly sent to our server, and they are not stored afterwards. You can delete them at any time with «Start a new list» in the final step. Only if you have the file sent to you by email do we process your address for that purpose.

Can I come back later or change something?

Yes. The assistant remembers your progress in this browser. You can close the page, come back later, adjust items and generate the file again. On another device or in a private window you start from scratch, because your entries never leave your device.

Why is the generated document in German?

This is our choice, not a rule: customs does not prescribe a language, the list may be on plain paper. We generate it in German because you hand it to a Swiss customs office together with form 18.44. That form is bilingual, German with the English translation on the back, and it says itself that the English translation has no legal force and that only the text in an official Swiss language is authoritative. Your list matching that authoritative text is the safer choice. Only the document is German, the assistant stays in English, and your own descriptions are used exactly as you wrote them, while numbers are set in Swiss notation for the customs office.
